Falling Down by Anne Mercier

Lucy has had a fangirl crush on Jesse Kingston, lead singer for the band Falling Down since she was in seventh grade. When their first video came out, Lucy threw a party to celebrate. Her family was flying with her to Los Angeles to move for her and her brother Joey’s acting careers. And who do they run into but Jesse Kingston. Sera hands Lucy some paper so she can get Jesse autograph. Lucy is in shock and doesn’t say much, so Sera gets the autograph for her. Lucy snaps out of it long enough to talk to him while they walk toward the boarding plane. As he boards, he kisses Lucy’s hand and she feels a zing flow through her body. Jesse boards to first class and Lucy and Sera board with the rest of the family in coach.

Six years pass and Lucy has become a successful actress with nomination for academy awards. Everyone loves her. Sera is now a successful runway model. Both girls are getting tired of their jobs. Sera is sick of having to watch what she wants to eat and Lucy is tired of having to deal with actors who are high maintenance and into drugs. And it’s her mother who pushed her toward acting. They both want a break. Their friend Cage Nichols asks them to be in a music video for him. They arrive ahead of time for makeup, hair and wardrobe. No one seems to be able to tell them which band they are filming the video with. Everyone is sworn to secrecy. They get ready earlier than expected and decide to check out the stage for the video. When they get out there they find instruments. Sera and Lucy used to be in a band together in high school. Sera picks up the drum sticks and Lucy grabs a guitar from the stage. They decide to jam out to some P!nk songs. Toward the end of their jam session, they decide to sing some Red- Never Be The Same. As they are singing someone joins them with another guitar and starts singing along. Lucy recognizes the sexy, sinful voice anywhere – none other than Jesse Kingston from Falling Down. Lucy nearly passes out from her excitement. They apologize for using their instruments. Lucy and Sera star in their new video for the song – Back To Then. They become friendly with the band and Jesse remembers Lucy from the airport. He flirts shamelessly with her.

They decide to go clubbing after the video shoot. Sera and Lucy hit the dance floor. They are dancing when Lucy feels strong hands wrap around her waist. Jesse and she are bumping and grinding, practically having sex on the dance floor. They end up kissing and then there is several bright flashes. The paparazzi has caught them in the act. Soon enough the tabloids are running wild with the news. Bad boy Jesse Kingston and Lucy Russo, America’s sweetheart, are they an item?! Who knew?!

Lucy tells her mother she is taking a break from acting. Sera indicates she wants a break from modeling. They decide to get their band Blush back together from high school. They call their friend Jace to begin reforming their band. With the help of their friend Cage and the band members of Falling Down, they begin to audition others for the band. The first one up is a drummer named Trace Styx. All of them begin playing together and it feels right. They ask Trace to stick around and help pick out a guitarist. Trace is a pretty well-known drummer but left his former band because they were more into drugs and not music. A girl named Layla comes to audition. She is familiar with Jesse and gives him a kiss on the lips and a hug. They start and Lucy is not as impressed with her as she was with Trace. Layla previously toured with them when she was in a band called Kickz. Cage tells her they will give her a call and let her know. The rest of the band votes her out. None of them really care for her. The next girl comes in to audition and she knows them. Her name is Megan and she used to be in a rival high school band. They start to play and Cage just cancels the rest of the interviews. He feels this is a good fit. Cage wants them to start right away to record their first album.

They go to return to their house but paparazzi are waiting. Jesse suggests that Lucy’s band move in with him and the guys. There is plenty of room and they have a recording studio which they can use. All of them get along well and the guys from Falling Down can tell a huge change in Jesse. Lucy tells Jesse to lose his hookups phone numbers from his phone. If they are going to be together, then she is it. Jesse is known to be the world’s largest man whore. Eventually Jesse realizes he is in love with Lucy. Lucy has been in love with him for a while but doesn’t want to say anything fearing he doesn’t feel the same. Jesse goes ring shopping for Lucy and asks Sera to come along for some help in picking out the ring.

Lucy’s band starts recording their songs for the first album. They have two weeks to get everything squared away for the tour. Cage decides it would be a good idea for them to be the opening band for Falling Down. They guys are scheduled to kick off on a tour.

All of them leave for Vegas on a private jet. Blush plays their first show and both bands decide to go out in Vegas to celebrate. They walk down the strip, drinking and gambling, being overly obnoxious. At some point they go in search of the real Elvis. And Lucy loses track of time in Caesar’s Palace around 2 AM.

When Lucy wakes up with the hangover of the century. She goes to wipe her hair out of her face and realizes there is a ring on her finger. She tries to wake Jesse and is blinded by the ring on his finger. They both see wedding rings and start remembering they got married. Elvis was an ordained minister. The paparazzi have a field day with this one. It is all over the news. Even though Jesse had wanted to wait, he seems fine with it. Now they go on tour as Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kingston. Lucy has to pinch herself to believe it.

Learn what happens next in Blush (Rockstar, Book 2) by Anne Mercier. It is the continuation of what happens to Jesse and Lucy and the rest of the members of the bands on tour.

I loved this book. The characters were believable and there was lots of humor and sarcasm between them. Just as I would expect it to be. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!
