I really enjoyed this first book by Eddie Cleveland.
This is the story of Mack and Lauren. High school sweethearts that end up going different directions when Mack goes to West Point and Lauren goes off to college. Fast forward to 10 years later, Lauren is a widower with a child and Mack is a war hero who lost his leg in combat. Mack is moved to the facility that Lauren works at for rehab and the feelings between the two are still there and strong as ever. Unfortunately, Mack has been the hot man whore and Lauren isn’t sure she can handle that. She is also hiding a secret that she isn’t sure Mack will understand.
While Mack is doing his rehab, Lauren’s son Chris starts to show even more dangerous signs of being out of control since his father was killed in an accident and Mack agree’s to help out and try to get Chris back on the right track. While doing this and some coming across some pictures, Mack figures out that Chris is his son.
We also learn that Mack is going through PTSD and not doing as well as he thinks he is on his own. Lauren and Chris both experience it first hand and Lauren tells Mack to get help or they can’t be together. In the end, Mack see’s what his PTSD is doing to the people he loves, others and himself and gets the help and support that he needs. Thus leading to a HEA
Again, the books is really great (characters and subject matter) I just wish the first couple of chapters were combined and moved the store forward a little more quickly than it did.
