We meet Evie, the strong, smart high school girl helping her little sister set up a bedroom for a new foster child that their parents are taking in. They are told it’s a 7 year old boy named Landon. We as we find out, there was a bit of a mix up and Landon is actually a 17 year old boy they are fostering.

Evie, actually meets him in school after he’s had a really rough start to the day.She befriends him and at the end of the day, find out that he’s the foster child. Such an interesting interaction. But Evie’s little sister is disappointed as she thought she was going to have a new friend her age.

Things are going great and Landon’s settling in but he’s hiding his feelings for Evie. Evie tries to fight the feelings as well, but they both start acting on them after Evie has an accident playing soccer. Things go from there and they are found by Evie’s parents sneaking around and they make Landon leave. It’s an emotional scene (Kleenex needed). Landon and Evie both try to find each other but many factors are keeping that from happening. There are some spoilers in this section that I won’t give away.

Forward several years and we find out that Landon has been keeping track of Evie when he can while going to college to become a surgeon. Evie has tried to keep track of Landon as well during college but she has a much bigger secret hiding in the back ground that could break them for good.

As it works out, they both end up at the same hospital doing residencies and find that the love and feelings are still there. They also find out what went down in both of their lives after that fateful evening when her parents made him leave. Both missing years stories are rough and both went through some tough times with harder choices to survive.

In the end, the big secret is out and it almost cost Landon is life/job and Evie. While Landon does make it through everything and we get the HEA we all know and love, Landon is such a broken character when we meet him; he’s written in a way that you just have to have the feels for him and are glad when he makes it through to the other side with the scars but continuing to move forward.

Side note – I like Ella’s writing story. While filling in all the missing parts of the history, it’s not like going from current to past chapter to chapter and missing some parts.
