This is the first book in the Good Ol’ Boy series by M. Robinson and also my first read by this author. Let’s just say that I laughed, got mad, and ugly cried during this entire book. The feel’s are so real it’s not funny…. might be because the events in the book have some similarities to my life.

We meet an entire gang of great characters in this first book. We have the boy’s (Lucas, Jacob, Dylan and Austin), the girls Alex/Half-Pint, Aubrey and Lily as well as parents and bad characters. The first book is the story/history of Lucas and Alex.

It all starts off with the boys and Alex begin best of friends from an early age. All of their parents are friends and the kids follow suit but there was always a special bond between Lucas/Bo and Alex/Half-Pint. Problem was people kept trying to keep them apart. They both tried to stay away from each other as they got older but the pull between the two was always there. By the time we get to high school, shit is really messed up between the two and we have two people that I find I don’t really like that make the situation even worse.

By the time they head to college, parents are pushing to keep them apart as well as the bad characters and it works until an accident leaves Austin, the youngest of the boys, and Alex in the hospital. Lucas comes running back and doesn’t leave her side until she is back to normal. But the push to keep them apart is still there and pushing. Alex heads to CA for college and due some things that happen during the summer before Lucas sees something an makes a bad judgement call that leads to child with the wrong gal. This crushes Alex and sends her further into the arms of another man, who is an a$$ and just pushes Lucas’s button’s all the time.

Forward to another tragic event in the making and Alex comes home for a big holiday party with all the players involved. The a$$ makes an announcement at the wrong time that puts Lucas into a spin and he closes off from everything except what he needs to focus on. The tragic event then happens and it’s a loss like you can’t imagine (and yes this same experience happened to me at a young as well). Alex comes home, says her good byes but noting can prepare you for this type of lose.

Lucas tries to force Alex away after the tragic loss and it crushes Alex because she didn’t think by accepting one option, it would push Lucas out of her life. So she heads back to CA and mopes around. While talking to Lily, Lucas’s sister, she finds out something that sends her into a tail spin. She then calls her mother for confirmation of what Lily said and it makes her take a step back. When a$$ comes home, she questions him about his love and when he can’t answer it correctly, she knows what she has to do.

She returns home with a plan and in the end with get the HEA we want for this great couple after all the s^%t they went through to make it there.

M. Robinson I’d like to say thank you for the wonderful characters. I don’t think I’ve actually felt this close to a crew as I have with this gang. It reminded me of some very great things from my childhood as well as the tragic issues that I went through to only come out on the other side in one piece. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing that this group could make it through anything!
